Job Description :
GIS Spatial Database Administrator
(Official Job Title: IT Professional, Tier IV)
This is advanced professional and specialized technical GIS work developing and administering an enterprise spatial database, implementing data creation and maintenance policies and procedures in order to provide an enterprise GIS to meet the needs of the County’s Business Centers/Core Services.


•Perform management and routine maintenance of the County’s enterprise ArcSDE geodatabases to ensure operational continuity. Manage database replication; monitor regular data update cycles.
•Tune and regularly monitor the operation of ArcSDE for optimal performance.
•Facilitates the integration of other enterprise systems with the ArcSDE geodatabase.
•Develop, test, enhance, complete, and maintain data related projects, processes, procedures and systems.
•Review, design, model, and normalize existing and new spatial data.
•Research and analyze data models to formulate and implement effective data structures to meet needs of various County business units.
•Collaborate with users and vendors performing data development and maintenance projects to ensure data consistency and integrity.
•Design and implement methodologies and projects to collect spatial data.
•Formalize and document database standards, procedures, operations, and policies in collaboration with ArcServer Administrator.
•Provides documentation and training as necessary for assigned functions.
•Solves multiple technical problems, and provides technical assistance to users (connection, access, technical issues, etc.)
•Serves as chair and lead of the GIS Data Committee.
•Develops and maintains skills as necessary to keep current with GIS technology and professional best practices.
Skills & Qualifications :
Preferred Qualifications: A Masters Degree; six (6) years of experience and advanced knowledge of SQL Server and Esri ArcGIS Desktop and Server Suite.

Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Geography, Geographic Information Science, Computer Science or a related field and three (3) or more years of progressively responsible professional and/or technical experience -OR- A Masters Degree from an accredited college or university in Geography, Geographic Information Science, Computer Science or a related field and two (2) or more years of related experience. Progressively responsible professional experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required college degree at the discretion of management.

Job Based Competencies: Must work independently leading and managing long term projects and assignments. Ability to address complex issues and situations. Position requires research skills, effective communications, and ability to collaborate with team members and executive level stakeholders. Due to the need to be available 24 hours, 7 days a week to address server issues as they arise, this position requires a Blackberry or similar device (email/phone capabilities).

Physical Demands: Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
