2. Organisation : RISK MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE INDIA PRIVATE LIMITED
Project Name : OYO FLOOD MODEL, CCW - Habitat Mapping Project
Role : GIS Engineer
Platform : Arc View, MapInfo, Arc info, AutoCAD, ERDAS IMAGINE

DETAILS OF THE PROJECTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. OYO FLOOD MODEL: Flood modeling was the part of the loss estimation model (Risk Link) developed by RMS for insurance companies for deciding premium. The final output was used as an input for Risk Assessment.
The modeling involves;
 stochastic module - involves defining the events,
 hazard module - deals with calculating the flood depths,
 Vulnerability module - calculates the damage caused and the final and crucial module financial identifies the financial losses due to the stochastic events.
Description of Responsibilities
 Spatial data - analysis for determining the hazard and vulnerability of the targets (rivers) and surrounding areas based on factors like population, property exposure to the potential hazard zone, land use & land cover.
 Creation of spatially correct River Stream correcting the river spatially with river reference to network of 1:25k resolution to set them perfectly as natural Original River. Attribute assignment as per the model requirements.
 DTM (digital Terrain Models) corrections Edge matching of DTMs, Merging them, filling gaps in DTM using interpolation techniques, remove the holes and negative elevations, filled the sinks and shift the DTM to align the perfect high resolution river network.
 Rainfall and Flow Gauge data processing Collected the rainfall and gauge records from different sources and convert them to single database for calculating discharge and validation.
 Catchments derivation Catchments are derived for each river from the sink-filled DTM and correction at the junction of the rivers.
 Historical Flood depth map generation using DTM and hardcopy map.
 Running HEC-RAS to calculate flood depths.
 Analysis of off flood plain by defining the rules in sheet flows and small streams.
 Data Quality Assurance before shipments to client.

2. Habitat Mapping for the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW):
Creation of digital database of various habitats using a series of paper survey maps. The database is used to identify the extent of open country (mountain, moor, heath and down). The project was also important in supporting a range of objectives for conserving biodiversity and public access to the countryside. CCW used the digital database to prepare draft maps of open country and common land, as proposed in the Countryside and Rights of Way Act (CROW).
Description of Responsibilities
 To create a combined digital database from over 1,000 paper maps of the Lowland and Upland Habitat Surveys of Wales
 Analysis and manipulation of the captured data to access land in Wales
 Quality assurance of GIS data base.
